National Institute of Speech and Hearing

National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) is an autonomous institution located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, working relentlessly for the education and rehabilitation of individuals suffering from speech-language and hearing impairments. It is a self financed institution which is established in 1997 by the Kerala State Social Welfare Department. It is affiliated to the University of Kerala. It has accreditation from the Rehabilitation Council of India as an Excellent Institution and by NAAC with A Grade. National Institute of Speech and Hearing offers 7 courses in 5 streams. Bachelor’s degree is offered in Fine Arts, Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Commerce, Computer Science. Two undergraduate Diploma degrees are also offered in Indian Sign Language and Early Childhood Special Education (Deaf). The institute also provides a specialized Master of Science degree in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. Admission procedures for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are conducted through online application. Admission to any course is based on Merit or Marks. There are seats reserved for SC/ST candidates in all the courses as per the University norms.

NISH provides many facilities which have been tabulated below: Library : The institute has a huge library consisting of 2739 books and 29 Journals which is accessible by the students. Well ventilated classrooms: The classrooms are large,well ventilated and airy which helps students to be at ease. Cafeteria: A spacious cafeteria is there inside the campus which provides hygienic foods to the students, staff and teachers at a subsidized price. Wi-Fi / Internet facility: The institute has Wi-Fi connectivity all over the campus, thus students can access the internet anytime for information and other activities. Sports Complex: In the campus the facilities and infrastructure of playing Badminton, Caroms, Chess, Table Tennis and basketball are available. More sports and fitness facilities like Volleyball court, indoor cricket court and gym and fitness centre are almost ready to open for the students. Auditorium: A spacious auditorium for all the conferences, seminars and other activities can be accessed in the institute.
